Police are holding an 18-year-old boy over boxing another student to death. The district Police commander, Jimmy Oyuku, said the Senior Two student at Ndekye Secondary School allegedly boxed Mubarak Ampeire,16, a Senior One student. Oyuku said during a general cleaning exercise at the school, an argument ensued, which resulted into a fight. He said the suspect would be charged with murder.

Hundreds of hectares of banana plantations have been destroyed following an outbreak of the bacterial wilt in the area. The district director of production and marketing, Sande Mutabazi, on Tuesday said the disease had spread to all the banana growing sub-counties. He said the disease, which attacks the stem of the plant, is transmitted from plant to plant by insects and farmers who use contaminated tools.
