MAKERERE University yesterday started issuing transcripts to students of Makerere University Business School (MUBS).

The university last month refused to process transcripts of more than 2,000 MUBS students citing irregularities in the course codes.

Earlier this week, the senate cleared MUBS after the school submitted the right course codes.

Makerere University academic registrar, Amos Olal Odur, yesterday said the delay to issue transcripts should not be related to the previous wrangles between the two institutions.

Odur explained that the decision to withhold MUBS transcripts was not a malicious move, but a measure to protect the reputation of the 85-year-old university.

“The university cannot issue transcripts with course codes which are defective. We asked MUBS to rectify the problem and they have done that. Students should understand that the measure was in their interest so that they can have reliable academic papers.

Students can be sure that their transcripts are being processed and some are ready,” he stated.
Odur said students who graduated during the 59th graduation ceremony on January 21, 2009 will get their transcripts.

About 2,000 students of business-related courses from the Nakawa-based school were awarded degrees and diplomas at the ceremony held at the main campus.

MUBS spokesperson Peter Odoki yesterday said: “The matter has been resolved and the students are getting their transcripts.”

Former students yesterday jammed Makerere University Senate Building and many complained that their transcripts were not available.

One student complained that the transcript given to him had wrong results.

The problem of delayed results has continued to ruin the image of the university although authorities say they addressed it.

Security personnel at the university yesterday briefly detained a New Vision photojournalist who was taking pictures of the waiting students at the transcripts office.
