THE Police in Mityana have arrested two suspects said to have been conning people and selling fake gold. Dan Kajjumba and Henry Migadde were arrested in their house in Kassanda trading centre in Mubende district in an operation by the Rapid Response Unit and Police officers from Mityana and Mubende districts.

The officer in charge of criminal investigations at Mityana Police Station, Angel Okello, said the two were arrested as they tried to con David Walulya of sh3m. Walulya is a resident of Kakiri in Wakiso district.

“We had heard about their operations. So when they tried to con Walulya, we started the hunt. They had already conned other people and the cases were reported,” Okello said.

He said the two had earlier conned Paul Lubega of over sh3m. “They claim to be getting the gold from Kamalenge Gold Mines and Kisiita in Kitumbi sub-county, Mubende district. What they sell is actually fake gold and if someone refuses to give them money, they rob him or her,” Okello added.

The two were nabbed with machines used to make fake items. They also had bottles containing items they referred to as gold. Okello said they were hunting for other conmen who were on the run, adding that the group was big.

He said Kajjumba and Migadde would be sent to court to answer different charges such as obtaining money by false pretence and robbing.

Mityana district Police commander Ben Mubangizi warned the public to be careful and avoid dubious deals. “You should work and get money, instead of trying to get rich quick and end up being robbed,” Mubangizi said.
