Bishop warns on strikes
GULU-The Anglican Bishop of Northern Uganda Diocese, the Rev. Nelson Onono-Onweng, has warned students of Gulu University against striking as a means of trying to solve problems. Onono-Onweng was addressing a congregation of Anglican students at the university main hall at the inauguration of the Church of Uganda branch at the university on Sunday. The bishop called on the students to be God-fearing and humble. He advised them to always raise their grievances through their students’ guild administration. “Strikes fuel and make matters worse,” Onono-Onweng said. The students recently rioted over alledged rigging of votes during the guild elections.

Pader blocks 800 Kjong
PADER-Over 800 Karimojong warriors, mostly hunger-stricken women and children, are camping at the Pader-Kotido district border, the Pader district chairman, Peter Odok W’Oceng has said. The warriors are camped with their animals and are running out of food.“I have asked the security officials not to allow the warriors to enter our district with their animals since most of the time they move with guns,” Odok said. He was addressing the district council meeting on Thursday at the council hall. Odok said the warriors were trying to persuade some local leaders to allow their wives and children enter the district to exchange goats for food and other essential commodities.
