THE Masaka High Court Judge, Moses Mukiibi, has declined to handle the election petition filed against Ssembabule district Woman MP, Hanifa Kawooya, arguing that he was not comfortable with the case.

The petition was filed by Joy Kabatsi, who is challenging the NRM’s decision to front Kawooya as the official party candidate without conducting primary polls.

A similar petition was filed by the Ssembabule district councillor, Isha Ntumwa, against the election of Kawooya on grounds that the polls were marred with irregularities.

Justice Kibuuka Musoke from Kampala High Court was assigned by the Principal Judge to take over the case.

“My colleague has officially declined to handle this petition on grounds that he was not comfortable and I was asked to take over the case,” he said in the High Court on Tuesday.

The petitioners, Kabatsi and Ntumwa, the counsel for the NRM party Godfrey Kandebe and the defendant, Kawooya, were present.
