PARAGUAY-President Fernando Lugo, a former Roman Catholic bishop, publicly apologised for fathering children while still a bishop of San Pedro. Lugo is unmarried due to his priesthood vow. He was defusing a scandal over claims from three women that he fathered their children. In 2006, he joined politics but the Vatican did not return him to lay status until his election in 2008. A judge ordered his son to carry his last name.

AUSTRALIA-Miss Universe contest was thrown into controversy last week when doctors and dieticians said Stephanie Naumoska, 19, a leading finalist was “skin and bones” and malnourished. She was one of 32 contestants to make it to the final at an event promoting “healthy, proportioned, bodies.” Naumoska weighed 49kg with a mass index of just 15.1, well under the 18 benchmark for malnutrition. Australian Medical Association president Rosanna Capolingua, said the contest should impose a minimum BMI cut-off of 20.

Parents take kids on theft
US-A mother was accused of driving a getaway minivan whisking her two children after burglaries in New York City homes. Prosecutors said Erika Santana, 23, drove the van with her four-year-old and five-month-old children inside after her husband, Hugo Lantigua, 22, and Pedro Camillo, 19, broke into the two houses. The adults are charged with burglary, criminal possession of a weapon and endangering the welfare of a child, and face up to 25 years in jail.
