SC Villa v Bunamwaya

WHEN the stakes are high and the task at hand massive, the last thing any club in title pursuit would want is a player revolt.

And SC Villa head coach Sula Kato is determined to pull the necessary stops to ensure such a mutiny does not derail the club’s hunt for domestic silverware.

Kato has already done all he could in convincing his first assistant Paul Nkata to revoke his quit plans.

Nkata had reportedly thrown in the towel citing disrespect from three of the club’s first team players Steven Bengo, Emma Okwi and Chrizestom Ntambi.

“He is still my assistant. He is going nowhere. I am fully in charge of this team and the players will continue to respond to what we want,” Kato hinted. The accused players Bengo, Okwi and Ntambi have been central in Villa’s impressive chase for a 17th league title.

The three will carry an extra burden in the club’s hopes of plundering that all-important victory against Bunamwaya today.

Ties between the two sides have never been short on drama and there are indications that this engagement could still be decided by the influence of the three.

Bunamwaya coach Jackson Mayanja will send his charges out with an ultimatum of denying the Villa trio access to the ball.

Mayanja looks certain to keep faith in the team that lost 2-0 to Express but will be forced into early changes if they continue to give the ball away cheaply, a glaring factor in their three previous matches.

Bunamwaya will be expected to play a patient game, keeping possession and frustrating their opponents, who need to win to preserve table leaders URA FC in sight.

FUFA has meanwhile threatened to fire super league referees who mess up the competition.

Federation president Lawrence Mulindwa said yesterday that the body was studying referees implicated in mishandling games.

The issue will be discussed in a meeting with the federation referees’ committee.
