LUWEERO district has banned a local cult, whose members believe in the biblical satanic number, '666'. The cult barred the members from taking their children to school, claiming that they were identified by numbers, which they said was satanic.

Any person found attending a congregation of the cult, locally known as ‘Enjiri’, will be arrested and prosecuted, resident district commissioner Geoffrey Kyomukama said recently.

The ban comes after 22 members were last month arrested and sentenced to one year in jail for holding an illegal assembly and sabotaging the Universal Primary Education programme.

Presiding over the Labour Day celebrations at Ziroobwe in Bamunanika sub-county, Kyomukama said the cult members’ laziness had increased poverty in the area.

He asked churches to encourage their followers to work instead of waiting for miracles. Kyomukama urged the residents to utilise government programmes so as to boost their household income.

The LC5 chairperson, Ronald Ndawula, urged the residents to stop lamenting about the bush war which devastated the area in the 1980s and work for the development of the district.
