KCC FC coach George Nsimbe is sweating on the fitness of midfielder Patrick Ssenfuka who will have a late fitness test today for tomorrow’s CAF Confederations Cup first leg fixture against Bayelsa United of Nigeria.

Were he any other soccer player, with the possible exception of Brian Umony or team custodian Benjamin Ochan, Ssenfuka’s need for pain relieving treatment would rule him out of first team contention.

“On any other day, he would be out but we are willing to take the risk. He damaged his ankle during the league game against Bunamwaya and has struggled since. But he has been taking pain killers and will continue to do so until after this crucial first leg,” Nsimbe hinted.

But Nsimbe probably feels that no other player will be capable of assuming Senfuka’s creative duties at Nakivubo stadium.

Ssenfuka has been everything exciting about KCC’s outstanding performances on both the domestic and continental fronts.

“We can’t afford to lose him. We are doing everything we can to protect him on the pitch as well as rehabilitate his joint,” Nsimbe added.

The 23-year-old is expected to start alongside Ronald Kamoga and Jeremiah Sebuyiira in a three-man midfield with Umony, Robert Ssentongo Anthony Bongole completing a three-man attack in a 4-3-3 formation.

Nigerian side Bayelsa arrive in the country today morning aboard Kenya Airways.
