Farmers urged to form unions
KAMPALA - Farmers have been advised to form cooperative unions to bargain for better prices for their products. The Uganda Cooperative Alliance general secretary, Leonard Msemakweli, said unions had the advantage of collective bargaining. He was on Thursday addressing members of the Grains Union. Msemakweli said organised groups could easily access loans from financial institutions for commercial farming. He urged farmers to grow grains and cereals, saying there was a big market for them in the region.

Patents registry automated

KAMPALA - The Uganda Registration Services Bureau automated system was launched last week. Speaking at the ceremony, the registrar general, Bisereko Kyomuhendo, said the innovation was in response complaints by local users that manual filing was slowing business. Kyomuhendo explained that the system is used for registering trade-marks and patents.
