NATIONAL golf captain Emmanuel Opio will make a fresh bid for his first major crown on home turf at the sh25m Eskom Jinja Open this weekend.

“I am looking forward to winning my first major tournament on my home course,” Opio said.

“The course is in good shape this time round.”

More that 120 golfers across the country will compete on the 9-hole course over two days starting on Saturday.

Opio, son of legendary golfer Sadi Onito, is looking to take advantage of the home course.

“I have been playing on this course for ten years I know it very well,” Opio added.

But Opio is wary of the challenge of his young brother Grace Ocici, Fred Wanzala and Peter Ndawula who are also enjoying good form.

At the same time, 11 professionals will be battling for cash with Deo Akope seeking to consolidate his position on top of the leader board.
