ARUA Central Football Club will return to Uganda’s top flight soccer for the first time in 9 years.

The team, that last played in 2000 as Arua Municipal Council, qualified this time after a 1-0 win over Samba Boys from Yumbe.

Moses ‘Tevez’ Tela was the hero at the Yumbe district boma ground yesterday.

Arua Municipal Council was earlier also relegated from the Super League after they withdrew with just four matches played in 1996.

Arua Central now join Masaka LC, who were the first team to return to the Uganda Super League last Friday.

The Kampala region semi-finals were extended to tomorrow with Maroons FC, who were relegated last season, well placed to return to the Super League.

The games were postponed to tomorrow because Nakivubo stadium will be hosting the Super League match between Bunamwaya and Nalubaale. The final was also adjusted to Thursday instead of Wednesday.

In the Western league, Hoima beat Mbuggu FC 2-1 to book a final place against Army team Umoja FC from Mbarara at Kuhinga stadium in Fort Portal. Umoja needed penalty shootouts to eject Fort-Hill 4-2 after a 1-1 draw in regulation time.

In the Eastern league, CRO, Jinja Arsenal, Busia and JMC Hippos are in the quarterfinals. Mbale Heroes, Amus, Kamuli, Ngora, Bidco and CRO Junior are still bidding.
