The Uganda Women’s Efforts to Save Orphans (UWESO), a local NGO, has received an assortment of donations from an Italian agency, Sunny Travel.

Receiving the items that included shoes, clothes, T-shirts and toys, UWESO chief executive officer Naomi Watiti said they would help in the rehabilitation of needy children that UWESO cares for.

Watiti explained that UWESO started its work by giving food, clothing, shelter, medical care and psychological support to orphans in the war-torn areas.

“With time, assistance was widened to providing basic needs and school fees,” she said.

Watiti said past wars and the HIV/AIDS scourge had increased the number of orphans in Uganda.

She said many children needed support to complete their education.

Sunny Travel director Gabrie Michelina pledged to give more, especially to impaired children.
