A karaoke enthusiast had to run for his life when he was stoned off the stage for performing the infamous song Emboko by Master Blaster during the Miss Arua beauty pageant on Saturday at Hill View Gardens.

With the emboko hit playing in the background, he stormed the podium but as soon as he emerged missiles flew in from all directions forcing him to retreat.

However, the rest of the show went on well with other artistes like King Weederman and Bosmic Otim pulling off performances that elated the crowd. Reigning Miss Uganda, Dora Mwima attended in the company of Uganda’s BBA 3 representative, Maurice Mugisha.

At about 2:00am, after an elaborate catwalk and design showpiece, Maureen Titia, a Senior five student from Mukono, was crowned Miss Arua 2009 after beating six other contestants.

Designs that stood out included African tradition wear, causal wear and evening costumes. Titia took home a 21-inch colour television, DVD player and a fully connected mobile phone from Zain. The first and second runners-up received a DVD player and a fully- connected phone each while the other contestants walked away with assorted gift hampers from the various sponsors.

Nile Breweries, Zain, Fair and Lovely, Umkomboti, Nile FM and Tina International School of Beauty sponsored the show.
