Chameleone arrested over fake cash

MUSICIAN Jose Chameleone was arrested by the Police yesterday over allegatgions of paying a fake sh50,000 note at Kobil petrol station near Bat Valley Primary School on Bombo Road, Kampala.

MUSICIAN Jose Chameleone was arrested by the Police yesterday over allegatgions of paying a fake sh50,000 note at Kobil petrol station near Bat Valley Primary School on Bombo Road, Kampala.
Chameleone told the Police he paid sh100,000 for fuel in two fifty thousand shilling denominations but was shocked when the pump attendant said one of them was fake.
The artist said he had withdrawn sh400,000 from a Barclays Bank ATM at Lubowa on his way from home in Seguku, another Kampala suburb.
He said he was heading to Wandegeya to service his car and take his wife to Abii Clinic for a check-up.
“I chatted with the attendants and mechanics and gave a female attendant two fifty thousand shilling notes and left,†he said.
“But I was shocked to see a mechanic following me on a boda boda at Wandegeya claiming one note was fake.â€
Chameleone, who recorded a statement at the Kampala Central Police Station, added that he ignored the mechanic and proceeded to his destinations, prompting the attendant to file a case at Wandegeya Police Station.
But the incident turned nasty when Chameleone was returning to town.
A security guard, James Agong, stopped him at Kobil but he ignored him.
The guard gave chase on a boda boda and caught up with Chameleone near King Fahd Plaza.
Witnesses said the guard stood in front of Chameleone’s car and ordered him to stop.
“But Chameleone refused and threatened to knock him down,†the witnesses said. The guard, who was later detained at CPS, fired a bullet.
Chameleone also lodged a case against the guard for allegedly attempting to shoot him.
Ceasar Ogen, an official of the Blue Fox security group which provides security to the station, said the guard should have taken down the vehicle registration number and reported the matter to the Police and not fired.
