PALLISA district is to receive sh4.3b from the World Bank for the implementation of the second phase of the Northern Uganda Social Action Fund (NUSAF) programme, a district official has said.

The assistant administrative officer, Moses Otimong, said the money, to be given in July, would cover the next five years.

According to Otimong, sh843m is expected to be disbursed to the district in the next financial year.

The NUSAF programme will fund household income support, public works and community infrastructure rehabilitation.

Under household income support, Otimong explained, activities supported will include citrus fruit growing, poultry, piggery, improved breeds of goats and cattle, as well as energy saving technologies, agro-forestry and agro-processing investments.

Non agricultural projects like carpentry, hair dressing, metal fabrication brick making, catering and hotel management will also be catered for.

He said the public works component would focus on construction and rehabilitation of community roads.

The district vice-chairperson, Christopher Onono, called for the involvement of the communities in the exercise and warned against misuse of the funds.
