A total of 600 residents of Jinja municipality west constituency have received chicks and piglets worth sh60m.

The locals, through 32 community groups, received 7,000 broilers, 1,000 layers, five piglets and 200 bags of feeding material at a function held at the home of the area MP, Harry Kasigwa, on Wilson Avenue on Thursday.

Kasigwa explained that the donation followed a request he and some colleagues made to the National Agricultural Advisory Services (NAADS) secretariat to support farmers in the district. He said experts would guide the farmers on how to manage the project.

Kasigwa added that the beneficiaries would be required to remit some of their profits to assist other farmers. He said the farmers would get 400 more bags of feeds.

Dr. Paul Kigenyi, the district NAADS coordinator, advised the farmers to always seek advice from the experts to avoid making losses.
