KAMPALA Amateur Volleyball Club KAVC, KCC and Sport-S face a stiff Kenyan challenge in the Aporu Memorial Cup in Kumi this weekend.

Fresh from the Genocide Cup triumph in Kigali last weekend, KAVC women have the task of dethroning Mukumu Girls in the annual event that starts today. It is dedicated to the former volleyball federation patron Dr. Aporu Okol who passed away during the 1990s.

“We are looking forward to a better season compared to last year. The Kigali victory is a very good inspiration for us,” said KAVC official Mofhat Masaba yesterday.

League champions KCC and the other Uganda top sides have the enviable task of trying to put a halt to the reign of Kakamega Prisons of Kenya.

Hosts Kumi Rangers and Termites are the local teams expected to give the top guns a run for their money.

Over 30 teams are expected in the event according to Kumi district sports officer Joseph Opio.
The three-day event gets underway today with competition in the schools category.
