EASTERN region football team secured a second draw on day two of the on-going MTN Inter-regions soccer championships with Buganda fighting from a goal down to level 2-2 at Lango Sports club yesterday.

Patrick Egesa put Eastern in the lead with a 44 minute strike but Mike Mugulusi levelled for Buganda at the stroke of half time.

Coach Frank ‘Video’ Anyau’s Eastern returned with a thrilling display to take the lead after Musa Malunda’s short range brilliant strike rested in the far post. Celebrations for Eastern lasted until the 56th minute when Kenny Tumusiime tapped in a cross from the right wing.

Eastern would have taken the day but failed when strikers Fred Menha, Fred Malele and man of the match 19-year-old CRO FC Robert Magomu all missed scoring chances in the dieing minutes of the game.

“It was a good match with a lot of talent on both sides. But I’m alarmed by this result because we are still in contention. We hope the other teams (West Nile v Buganda) can draw so that we advance,” Anyau said.

Anyau prays that today West Nile and Buganda play to either a goalless or 1-1 draw for him to advance in group B. Buganda needs any draw to advance to the semifinals on Friday.

The climax of the tension packed encounter had Anyau and Buganda region manager Badru Ssentongo exchanging hot words as the usually entertaining coach reacted bitterly to a foul on Magomu by a Buganda team player.

Western drew 1-1 with Kampala in the second match to storm the semi-finals following their 3-0 win against Mid Northern in the first match.
