THE National Resistance Movement (NRM) is scheduled to elect its presidential candidate for the 2011 elections by the end of March 2010.

According to the party roadmap, the candidate will be elected during the second national delegates’ conference.

The party will also elect the national leadership and debate on the draft party manifesto. For the NRM, the party chief is also the presidential candidate.

The roadmap was adopted during the NRM National Executive Council (NEC) meeting at State House, Entebbe last month, deputy secretary general Dorothy Hyuha told journalists yesterday.

Hyuha, who is also the MP for Butaleja, also announced an extraordinary meeting of the NEC to be held next Tuesday at the State House, Entebbe.

The extraordinary meeting has been convened by the secretary general, Amama Mbabazi, on the directive of President Yoweri Museveni.

“From January to February, we intend to have internal elections of our structures from villages to districts,” Hyuha said.
Between April 2010 and June 2010, the party will conduct registration, nomination and campaign in the primaries for presidential, parliamentary, LC5 and LC3 candidates, while voting is scheduled for July 2010 to August 2010.

The Central Executive Committee meeting is scheduled for October 2010 while the parliamentary campaigns will be held between January 10 to February 20, 2011.

The agenda for the Tuesday meeting includes debating amendments to the party constitution, Hyuha said.

She pointed out that the issues to be debated included whether the NRM primaries will be conducted by adult suffrage or electoral colleges and the quorum for the disciplinary committee.

Also for discussion is the key-note address delivered by the President and the report of the secretary general during the May 26 NEC meeting.
NEC will also reconstitute the National Disciplinary Committee and the party Electoral Commission.

NEC members include all Central executive committee members, the 240 NRM Members of Parliament, NRM LC5 chairpersons, chairpersons of the NRM district conference and members of the NRM league.

Accreditation will take place on Monday (June 22) between 9:00am and 8:00pm at the NRM National Secretariat at Plot 10, Kyadondo Road, Hyuha said.
