UGANDANS will have to contend with over 20 golfers from Western Kenya in the Tororo Golf Open this weekend.

The Kenyans from Kitale, Kakamega and Mumias include professional golfers who will battle for sh3m in cash prizes courtesy of the sponsor Tororo Cement that sunk sh22m in the two-day event.

Uganda Golf Union executive and Tororo Golf club life member Johnson Omollo assured the golf fraternity that the course has been improved upon as compared to last year.

“The course is dry because of the weather but good,” Omollo explained yesterday.

“Our sponsors have provided nice prizes to be won.”

Tororo Cement chief marketing manager Alok Kala said sh7m was specifically earmarked for prizes.

The tournament which is the sixth on the Uganda Golf Union calendar is expected to attract top players from Kampala, Entebbe, Jinja, Fort Portal, Masindi, Mbarara and Kabale.

The overall winner will be determined by the best gross score as per Uganda Golf Union regulation.

Leading the way in this event is national champion Vincent Byamukama of Entebbe club.

Byamukama, seeking a hat-trick of titles, will be up against his old foes like Fred Wanzala. There will also be a ladies category.
