THE fate of embattled Commercial Court judge, Anup Singh Choudry, will be decided by President Yoweri Museveni, the Judicial Service Commission has said.

A report on the alleged misconduct by Choudry, is almost ready and will be sent to the President for action, Ronald Sekagya, the acting deputy registrar for education and public affairs, said yesterday.

Sekagya said the commission had obtained information about Choudry’s removal as a solicitor in the UK in 2000.

“We have got all the information we wanted on Choudry. We informed him and he responded.

“He is aware about us looking into allegations that he misbehaved as a solicitor while in the UK,” said Sekagya.

Sekagya noted that Choudry’s case would soon be discussed at the next sitting of the juducial commission.

He said the commission’s powers stop with making recommendations.

The judiciary spokesperson, Erias Kisawuzi, said Choudry’s case could only be determined by the commission, which recruits judicial officers.

Meanwhile, the embattled judge has again not been allocated cases this week, with top judiciary officials still maintaining that it is normal because the judge is still indisposed.

This means that for the fourth week in a row, the judge will not hear any cases.

Asked whether this could fuel speculation, considering the controversy surrounding the judge , Gladys Nakibuule, the registrar, who is also in charge of allocation of cases, insisted that the judge is still indisposed.

Choudry was appointed judge, with 12 others in May 2008 by the President.
