Baku lauds anti-graft court on Cheeye

ACTING Inspector General of Government (IGG) Raphael Baku has lauded the Anti-Corruption Court for jailing the former director of economic monitoring in the Internal Security Organisation.

ACTING Inspector General of Government (IGG) Raphael Baku has lauded the Anti-Corruption Court for jailing the former director of economic monitoring in the Internal Security Organisation, Teddy Cheeye, report Patrick Okino, Patrick Ogwang and Bonney Odongo.

Baku warned the chief administrative officers, LC5 chairpersons and junior civil servants against corruption.

“Whoever is found will be prosecuted, sent to prison and the money recovered from them before they are sacked,” Baku stated.

He was speaking while opening a one-day workshop on integrity, efficiency and effective service delivery at Lira Hotel in Lira town on Monday.

The workshop, organised by the IGG’s office, attracted LC5 chairpersons, resident district commissioners and sub-county leaders from the Lango sub-region.

Baku noted that people aged between 25-30 were among the most corrupt because of their desire to quickly acquire for luxuries like cars and houses.

He also cited the district service commissions, the judiciary and the Police as departments where corruption is rampant.

Baku urged the commissions to ensure transparency during recruitment and advised civil servants to be contented with their salaries.

Lira LC5 chairman Franco Ojur accused the IGG’s office of being partial while tackling corruption cases.

Cheeye was convicted and sentenced to 10 years in Luzira Prison by Justice John Bosco Katutsi early this year for embezzling the Global Fund money. He was also ordered to pay back sh110m.
