TABLE TENNIS - Eddy Omongole of Mbale Progressive Academy will defend his title in the National Table Tennis Schools Championship due July 3-4 at Aga Khan SSS in Kampala. The event is also held in memory of Peter Kateregga, a former junior, who won a bronze medal at the All Africa Games. Over 20 teams are expected to participate. Zura Kawuka of Mbale Progressive is the girls defending champion.

Former junior champions Patrick Kawuma and Arthur Segwanyi, on four points each out of four rounds played, have taken an early lead in the first phase of the Olympiad qualifiers at Lugogo. The two are unbeaten among 48 players battling for qualification in the ten round Swiss format event. Two games were played at the weekend.

Masaba named
VOLLEYBALL - Continental volleyball governing body CAVB has appointed international referee Mofaht Masaba Africa zone five beach volleyball commission chairman. Masaba, who is also boss of the local beach volleyball commission, was appointed at the global FIVB congress in Egypt recently. He is in charge of Egypt, Sudan, Ethiopia, Eritrea, Djibouti, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Kenya and Somalia.
