FORMER world steeplechase champion Dorcus Inzikuru continued her steady return to the track by winning a 1500m race in Italy on Sunday.

She clocked 4 minutes 30.77 seconds to win the Italian club championships race. It was her first race in Europe after over two years and was 20 seconds off the Ugandan national record of 4:09.61.

What was particularly impressive was Inzikuru’s final kick, a pre requiste if she is to challenge the best in the middle distance races.

Inzikuru took only 58 seconds in the last 400m.

“It was a slow race. It was a championship and people were looking more for positions and not time. She did not register a good time but she proved that she has regained her speed with her finishing,” said her Ugandan manager Flavio Pasqualato.

“That is what world beaters need most.”

Meanwhile Abraham Chepkirwok’s comeback after over a month’s lay off due to an ankle injury saw him clock 1 minute 46.17 seconds to finish third in an 800m race.

Chepkirwok was in the slower heat two in the one-day event that took place in Spain on Saturday.
