The youth and local leaders taking a cadre training course at the Uganda College of Commerce Pakwach in Nebbi district, have been urged to help the community fight corruption.

The special advisor to the President, Richard Todwong, said the youth were being trained to promote patriotism and love for their country.

“We are training you to become corruption conscious and help the Government monitor how civil servants spend Government money. As future leaders, corruption is the biggest challenge we must fight,” Todwong said.

Todwong was on Saturday lecturing the youth on corruption. The three-week course was organised by the general duties state minister, Fred Jachan Omach, to mobilise and create awareness among the communities about the Prosperity-for-All programme.

A total of 300 youth and local leaders from Jonam county attended. The cadres, who were selected from the 15 parishes in the county, are also being trained in ideological development and mobilising people for development.

The training, which started on July 5, will end on July 25. “To be a good leader, you have to be above situations. We are poor not because of our own making, but due to the effects of the war,” Todwong said.

Reacting to the cadres’ complaints of unemployment, Todwong said many of the youth did not have qualifications required for the for jobs. He warned the youth against joining the opposition, saying some politicians would tell them lies about the NRM government in the 2011 elections.
