MANY people know this song as Ndikwambala Nga’Ekooti. But its original title is Sirikusuula, and it is one of those timeless classics that catapulted Frank Mbalire to fame in the late 1980s.

Yet, not many people know that Mbalire, the Afrigo band guitarist, is the father of one of Uganda’s fastest-rising musical stars, Myco Chris.

The London-based singer has not only followed in the footsteps of his talented father, but Myco has also relived Mbalire’s most successful song to date, Sirikusuula.

This follows Myco’s successful Zino Enaku, Kabiite Wange and Nkwagala, all of which found their way onto local radio countdowns.

Myco’s remake of Sirikusuula comes 20 years after the original song was released. And while Mbalire’s version was purely afrobeat, Myco’s leans towards R’n’B.

Even then, this does not seem to bring anything new to the party as Myco chooses to use a lot of the original melodies.

However, with his hypnotic vocals, the new version is as appealing as the original.
