FOOTBALL Kenya has called off the friendly match between national team, Harambee Stars and Alem Brazil saying the Brazilians are old, retired players who will add no value to the Kenyan side.

Reuben Olita
reports from Nairobi that fans who had secured tickets were left stranded ahead of what had been billed “the clash of the century” with adverts bearing the faces of superstars, Kaka and Robinho, in local dailies and radio promotions.

FKL’s vice chairman, Erastus Okul said the team was thrashed by Uganda Cranes 4-1 and only managed to squeeze a 2-1 victory over Ugandan ex-internationals to prove that the planned friendly against Kenya national team will not add any value to the team.

“ We were told it was the Brazilian national team but we have since realized that it is not and we cannot allow our team to play them,” said the official.

Okul said the only option for the visiting side was to play a select side of retired former internationals.

However, Youth and Sports Ministry, Sports Stadia Management Board and representatives of an evangelical organisation that arranged the tie insists the match is on.

“We are selling the tickets and ensuring the stadium is ready for the match,” an official said.
