TOORO Golf Club’s Frank Mugisa endured a wrist injury sustained in a motorcycle accident an hour before tee off to win the Mukwano Open in Fort Portal on Sunday.

Mugisa, who was injured while on his way to the golf club on Saturday, went ahead to compete in the two-day tournament.

Playing in pain, Mugisa carded 78 on day one before shooting a closing round 68 on Sunday for an aggregate of 146 to claim victory.

He beat Kasese based Peter Obita to the title by three shots, to surge into second position in the Uganda Golf Union stroke-play championship with 26 points.

Mugisa shares second position in the standings with Fred Wanzala, five points behind championship leader Vincent Byamukama. The national champion opted to compete in the MTN Arua Open the same weekend.

“The arm was in pain, the course was dry but I managed to win. I am glad I won it,” Mugisa said.

Tooro club members Lawrence Muhenda, Adolf Muhumuza and Titus Okwong, were third, fourth and fifth respectively.

Jinja based Emma Opio, who led on day one with 74, finished sixth.

Tooro’s Sylvia Kihunde won the women’s gross title with 175.
