URA sorry for border strike
MALABA-The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) has apologised over a recent strike by clearing agents in the district. The strike followed a decision by the tax body to have the number of goods scaled down, but the agents interpreted the move to imply that their services had been banned. Peter Malinga, the customs commissioner, blamed the incident on a breakdown of communication. On June 1, URA suspended the verification of some items in the district due to a shortage of staff and lack of machinery. Malinga said when the construction of the yard is completed, more trucks would be handled, adding that two customs officers would posted to the district this week before more items can be verified.

X-ray machine still down

Although the hospital authorities have informed the health ministry officials about the problem, no action has been taken. The district director of health services, Dr. David okumu, said the equipment, which was received two years ago, cannot function because it was not well fitted by a technical firm hired by the health ministry.
