THE education ministry has called upon officials in Soroti district to take action on the teacher who got drunk while on duty.

Dr. Daniel Nkaada, the commissioner for primary education, said the teacher breached the code of conduct.

“We may write to the district if need arises,” Nkaada said.

Sam Odongo, a 39-year-old social studies teacher at Owalei Primary School, was on Monday caned by angry parents who caught him drinking enguli (potent gin) at Ajokar trading centre during working hours.

He was later dragged to Opuyo Police Post to record a statement.

Speaking after the incident, the district education officer, Michael Etoyu, said Odongo would be disciplined.
