NATIONAL basketball association NBA star Juwan Howard is to arrive in Uganda Friday morning for a two-day visit sponsored by soft drink beverage Sprite to promote local basketball.

NATIONAL basketball association NBA star Juwan Howard is to arrive in Uganda Friday morning for a two-day visit sponsored by soft drink beverage Sprite to promote local basketball.
The 36-year-old Howard, who plays for the Charlotte Bobcats, is coming to crown a basketball talent-search project organised by Miles and Associates which has seen camps held in Gulu, Mbale, Fort Portal and Kampala.
Miles and Associates are a US funded South African based organisation that promotes youth development mainly through basketball.
They have been running nationwide camps from which five youngsters will be chosen to attend the Basketball without Boarders camp starting September 2 in South Africa.
Howard will select those five players from the boys who have been identified during the national search. The boys will gather on Friday at YMCA, Wandegeya, to display their skills with Howard given the honour of selecting his best five.
Howard will also hold a press conference on the same day as well as meet with various stake holders in local basketball, from players to officials, to offer advice.
Howard is a 15 year-long NBA veteran who has played for eight teams since joining the Washington Bullets (now Wizards) as fifth overall draft pick in 1994. He also made the 1996 Eastern Conference All-Star team.
