Three people were on Tuesday evening killed in a boda-boda accident at Bajja trading centre near Lukaya town on the Masaka road.

The Lukaya Police Post chief, Sgt. Apollo Bategyerize, identified one of the deceased as Joseph Ssali alias Mazima, a businessman based at Kankobe trading centre in Nkozi sub-county in Mpigi district.

Others are Aisha Kibeero, a resident of Lukaya town and the third was only identified as Yvonne.

The trio was travelling on a boda-boda from Mukoko towards Lukaya when they were hit by a speeding omni bus heading to Masaka from Kampala.

“The taxi hit them and they fell in the middle of the road. They died instantly because I did not see any of them make any movement after falling down,” Scovia Najjemba, a witness, said, adding that the taxi did not stop.

Bategyerize blamed the accident on the boda-boda cyclist who wanted to overtake a vehicle at a dangerous spot.

“The cyclist was not patient to wait and get out of the corner. He was not aware that another vehicle was coming from where he was going and he was hit,” Bategyerize explained.

He said the boda-boda cyclist was speeding and riding recklessly.

“When the cyclist realised that he was about to cause an accident, he swerved off the road but brushed the vehicle he was trying to over take and bounced into the road. The omnibus then knocked the motorcycle.”

The bodies were taken to the Masaka Hospital mortuary.

The accident took place a few metres from where former Kalungu North East MP Mathias Sendegeya was killed by a speeding boda-boda motorcycle three weeks ago.
