FUFA and Nile Breweries are close to sealing a fresh deal for the football awards before the federation’s general assembly, Saturday. The awards are likely to be part of the agenda to be discussed during the expected three-hour non-elective assembly at the Colline Hotel in Mukono.

FUFA president Lawrence Mulindwa told The New Vision after launching the national U-16 championship at Progressive SS in Mukono yesterday that he had had what he described as a ‘positive meeting’ with the Nile Breweries leadership for the ‘FUFA Nile Special Awards’.

“We had a positive meeting although a few issues were referred. We are willing to discuss and finalise with Nile Breweries in the course of the week. Anfield is only a broker,” a beaming Mulindwa said.

The electoral process that will bring in the 27th FUFA president starts this weekend with the dissolution of the federation’s general assembly.

After Saturday’s assembly, Mulindwa, together with fellow delegates, will seek a fresh mandate.

Before winding up business, the assembly will appoint a returning officer who will formulate electoral guidelines. Former athletics federation secretary Patrick Okanya handled the 2005 polls that brought Mulindwa into office.
