THE National Resistance Movement (NRM) leaders have been warned against fighting each other for posts during campaigns. The Government Chief Whip, Daudi Migereko, advised the leaders to focus on winning the 2011 presidential elections.

This was during a recent meeting with the NRM local leaders at Kakira High School in Kakira sub-county, Jinja district. The meeting aimed at encouraging party mobilisers to focus on the NRM objectives and manifesto.

“The internal fighting by NRM members for posts during elections portrays a bad image to the public. I urge you to follow the party constitution in order to avoid it,” Migereko said.

He said the party members would be sensitised on the procedures followed by those who want to contest for posts.

He also dismissed claims that the party mobilisers are used by candidates and discarded after elections. Migereko urged the mobilisers to start development projects that the Government can support under its programmes like the National Agriculture Advisory Services and Prosperity-for-All.

Richard Gulume, the Tororo district deputy resident district commissioner, urged the mobilisers to start scrutinising their leaders and elect those who can lead and serve basing on their experiences.

Hannington Basakana, the Jinja district chairperson, told the mobilisers to respect democratic values and urged them to fight corruption. “The opposition parties have grown because of the indiscipline and intolerance among the NRM,” Basakana said.

The meeting was attended by the private secretary to the President, David Mafabi, workers MP Joram Pajobo, Jinja district speaker Agnes Nabirye and Kakira LC3 chairman John Kamawu.

Migereko recently organised similar meetings in Bugembe and Mafubira sub-counties.
