Kitende face Jinja Parents in U-16 final

RICHARD Kalule struck a brace yesterday as St Mary’s Kitende football side beat hosts Progressive Citizen 3-1 to secure their maiden final place at the U-16 National Championships in Mukono.

RICHARD Kalule struck a brace yesterday as St Mary’s Kitende football side beat hosts Progressive Citizen 3-1 to secure their maiden final place at the U-16 National Championships in Mukono.

Kalule single-handedlly destroyed Progressive, who reached this stage after Bishop Nankyama was thrown out for cheating.

Nankyama was found guilty of fielding players who were not students.

Rogers Kalyango scored the third goal for Kitende while Kennedy Onyango picked the consolation for Progressive.

In the other semifinal Jinja Parents beat Manjazi 1-0 courtesy of a George Segujja strike.

  • As the countdown to Uganda’s CECAFA U-17 opening match against Kenya gathers pace, Richard Wasswa is sweating over a problem any coach would rather have –– an embarrassment of riches in attack.

    “That is the main area I feel puzzled. Each of the strikers available is good enough to start,” the coach reasoned ahead of the championship that starts on August 19 in Sudan.

    On the evidence of the team’s first competitive 2-1 friendly win over St Mary’s Kitende, Ibrahim ‘Sadam’ Juma (Old Kampala) and Isma Kabugu (Proline) and proved good enough.

    But so did Yusuf Bagoth, Julius Ssenoga (Express), Kenneth Tumusiime and Andrew Buteera, after coming off the bench in the latter stages.

    Sudan president Gen Omar El Bashir has injected $700,000 (sh1.4b) in the tournament. Uganda lost 2-0 against Burundi in the 2007 final.
