The agricultural market report for August prepared by Info Trade Uganda, a farmers’ organisation, indicates that fresh cassava costs between sh280 and sh1,000 (wholesale) and from sh300 to sh1,000 (retail) in most urban centres across the country.

In Gulu, a kilogramme of dry cassava goes for sh900 (retail).

It costs sh400 in Nakawa, while in Jinja and Mbale, it is as low as sh300 and sh160 respectively.

In most other markets, sweet potatoes cost sh150 and sh1,000 per kilogramme (retail).

A kilogramme goes for sh150 in Kiboga market, sh380 in Jinja, sh400 in Nakasero and sh600 in Nakawa.

A kilogramme of Irish potatoes go for between sh220 and sh1,200 (wholesale), while in Iganga, the same quantity costs sh800, sh1,000 in Nakasero, sh500 in Nakawa and as low as sh250 in Kapchorwa.

The retail price of dry beans costs between sh1,000 and sh1,800 per kilogramme and sh700 and sh1,800 (wholesale) throughout the country.
