GNL Zamba is undoubtedly the most popular local hip-hop artiste. He is the current face of Lugaflow hip-hop and has won a horde of fans for the genre. He has won PAM Awards, Teeniez Buzz Awards and was the Arts Press Association (APA) artiste of the month for June.

GNL is the first artiste to have his concert sponsored by MTN, although he is not on the company’s monthly retainer’s list of artistes.

His show dubbed Koi Koi (Riddles of Life) will be held at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds today. The other shows will be on Saturday and Resort Beach on Sunday.

The singer is a multi-focal star who goes folkloric in Koi Koi, the lead track on his first album. On the popular Mwana wa Baaba, GNL puts hip-hop rhymes on the backdrop of Ganda drums while Story ya Lukka (about HIV/AIDS) is full of activism. In Ekikufula Omusajja, GNL asks men not to mistreat their wives. The storyteller in him is clearest in Ani Yali Amanyi that features vocals by the late Elly Wamala. Other hits include Mr. Right (featuring Mowzey Radio and Weasel) and Soda Jinjale (featuring Uniq).

GNL says: “You are going to see what hip-hop artistes can do on a
big stage.”

Mowzey Radio, Weasel, Aziz Azion, Benon and Rubadaba will perform at the show.
