UGANDA ex-international footballers association will today play a friendly match against former Congolese players based in Uganda at Nakivubo. The Ex-Cranes are preparing for a series of international engagements.

The Congolese are headed by former Express FC marksman Zazak Lingaya now turned Kampala businessman.

Newly elected patron of the association, Gibby Kalule told members after training at Nakivubo Sunday that there are many prospects and potential for the ex-internationals if they show seriousness.

“We want to have friendly matches with our generation in other countries as a follow up of the Brazilian game,” Kalule said.

“There is a general phobia that Ugandan footballers are hopeless especially those who are not financially sound. Let us recap ourselves to the golden days when we used to entertain soccer lovers to prove that we are not yet doomed.”

Kalule pledged to sponsor the association through his GK Sports Foundation.

The members confirmed Ashe Mukasa as chairman to run the association.

They last week elected Patrick Ntege - secretary, Jackson Mayanja treasurer/team captain, Polly Ouma head coach assisted by Sam Simbwa.

Other members on the committee include Godfrey Nyola, Phillip Obwiny, Sam Kawalya, Joseph Mutyaba and Dan Ntale.

Gate fee will be sh2000 while students will enter free.

Lineup: Sam Kawalya, Abdu Nsubuga, Kefa Kisala, Robert Mukiibi, Phillip Obwiny, James Odoch, Richard Amatre, Jackson Mayanja, Mathias Kaweesa, Gibby Kalule and Charles Ogwang.
