ONE reason you will find cooking interesting is not the sheer pleasure of being in the kitchen but your ability to get creative, trying out a new recipe, learning a technique or using different ingredients.

Sweet and sour pork is a Chinese cuisine whose touch and taste has made its mark in Uganda. This renders it worth trying out in the comfort of your kitchen. Below are the ingredients you need.

Ingredients
500g pork fillet — chopped to 1inch
1 Teaspoon salt
Pinch of pepper
½ Teaspoon Chinese spice powder
2 Tablespoons dry sherry
1 Egg
3 Tablespoons corn flour
2 Tablespoons
vegetable oil
Groundnut oil
1Garlic clove — crushed
1Onion — oughly chopped
1Green pepper — cored, deseeded and diced
250g Pineapple chunks, with juice
3 Tablespoons tomato sauce Pineapple to garnish.

Procedure
Boil the pork until it changes colour
Drain the water and set the pork aside to cool
Mix salt, pepper, five-spice powder, sherry, egg and corn flour in a bowl.

Add the pork and mix evenly to coat well.
Heat the vegetable oil
Deep-fry the pork until brown and set aside.Heat the groundnut oil in a pan, add garlic and fry until golden.

Add the onion and green pepper and stir for one minute
Add pineapple juice, vinegar, sugar and tomato sauce. Cook, stirring, until it thickens.

Add pineapple junks and pork and stir until heated and serve hot.
