A local Manchester United supporter is said to have died on Saturday night allegedly due to over-drinking of a local potent gin.

The Police yesterday said Musa Businge was found dead in a kafunda (local pub) in Luzira, Mambo Bado LC Zone, a few hours after his team won a game against Arsenal FC.

Kampala deputy Police spokesperson Henry Kalulu said Businge, a resident of Kisenyi and a timber dealer, reportedly hit the pub after the match and drank huge quantities of enguli (local gin).

“He had watched the match at a local joint and after the game, he headed for the pub,” Kalulu said, describing the tragic incident as a case of “premiership madness.”

Kalulu, who was speaking at the weekly press briefing at the Kampala Central Police Station, urged the youth to spend their time productively.

“They should concentrate on other businesses other than supporting teams in leagues where they even don’t have any relative or friend,” he said.

When The New Vision visited the bar where Businge died, one of the neighbours, only identified as Margaret, said Musa Businge, alias Manda Nakaleese, had spent days without food.

The incident comes a few days after the health ministry warned of a poisonous brand of liquor that has claimed lives in various parts of the country.

The deaths are believed to be caused by drinking liquor which contains methanol. Methanol is a non-drinking type of alcohol that is used for industrial and automotive purposes. When consumed, it breaks down, releasing toxic substances.
