Another Police officer has been arrested to answer charges of causing financial loss through creating ghosts on the Police payroll.

Primo Nyokatre, the assistant commissioner in charge of personnel management at the Police headquarters, was on Friday afternoon taken from his home in Agoruvu, Dadamu sub-county in Arua district. He had stayed there for just two days.

Sources said Nyokatre, who ordinarily resides in Naguru East African Flats in Kampala, travelled to Arua on Wednesday night, following reports that he was to be arrested and charged.

His co-accused appeared before the Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate, Emmy Sayekwo, on Thursday.

They included Ashe Kawooya, a principal analyst with the finance ministry working in the computer services section, Dennis Twinamatsiko, who is attached to the force’s finance department, Alfred Okello and Dennis Nyangweso.

They are accused of creating duplicate names and multiple computer numbers on the Police payroll that led to the loss of sh2.1b. Twinamasiko and Nyangweso were separately charged with neglect of duty.
