SAM Ssimbwa has decided to shut the door on enigmatic defender Asuman Buyinza.

The soft-spoken KCC FC tactician took the decision yesterday after the rock-solid defender yet again went missing despite being appointed team captain for the club's 2009/10 season.

“He let me down. I had given him the responsibility of leading the team but decided to run to probably Vietnam again. I intend to start the season without a permanent captain because I need a skipper that is disciplined and one that will play every game and at the moment I can’t see any,” said Ssimbwa.

Buyinza had replaced Sam Mubiru as team skipper and was the team captain when KCC engaged Sudan giants Al Hilal in their international friendly game in Khartoum last week.

Buyinza’s mysterious tendencies are legendary. Just last season, the defender disappeared thrice when KCC needed him for CAF Champions League duty.

His command and versatility at the back had made the ideal pillar upon which Ssimbwa builds his new-look team.

The club’s 2008 league championship-winning team has been drastically reduced to shreds following the departures of Brian Umony, Robert Ssentongo, Vincent Kayizzi, Patrick Ssenfuka, Jeremiah Sebuyiira, Sam Mubiru and Sam Ssenoga.

Although Ssimbwa has since managed to secure Bruno Olobo, Franco Oringa, Moses Oloya, Jimmy Kakooza, Brian Majwega, Willy Kavuma, Mubarak Tenywa and Morley Byekwaso, his new-look squad is still desperately short of experience.

Meanwhile, the player registration process for the forthcoming season starts on Saturday. Players will be expected to present their passports at various registration centres in the country. Players’ height and weight measurements will also be undertaken.

Stadium inspection will be done co-currently while the league kickoff is September 19.
