POWER FM will celebrate 10 years of service with a huge festival at Kyadondo Rugby Grounds today.
The event code-named Phatfest ‘09 kicks off at midday and will offer performances from top notch East African musicians Rufftone, Mr. Googs, Daddy Owen, Esther Wahome and DJ Riq from Kenya, Exodus aka Ganja Man, Tickitah, Cristophabulous, Bugembe, Judith Babirye and H.O.P from Uganda.

Sudanese rapper and international music sensation Emmanuel Jal will crown the performances. This multi-talented singer is a former Sudanese child soldier who spent his childhood as an SPLA fighter.

He is based in London and is best known for his hit album Gua, a mix of rap in Arabic, English, Kiswahili, Dinka and Nuer. He was awarded a 2005 American Gospel Music Award for best international artiste.

Promoters say all music will be live and a hired band has since been rehearsing for the past few months. The band is meant to be a surprise.

On the road to the event, Power FM fans donated 40,000ml of blood in the radio station’s parking lot recently.

They also signed their names on a huge Power FM birthday card — a plywood board with Power FM logo in graffiti.

Tickets are available at Power FM Offices at sh10,000 (students), sh20,000 (General) and 50,00 (VIP).
