ARTISTES Bobi Wine and Klear Kut together with rally driver Jas Mangat are set to fight in a boxing gala September 18 at Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort.

Dubbed ‘Knockout on the Nile,’ the gala will launch white-collar boxing in Uganda in a charity fundraising for Mityana Boarding School and the Lugogo boxing gym.

Organisers want to raise sh100m from the gala where a table of ten goes for sh1.5m. There will also be an auction and tickets are already on sale.

The bulk of the proceeds will rehabilitate the Mityana school whose 600 students include 200 orphans.

The gym is in a sorry state. “We want to work on the floor and also equip it,” explained an organiser, Farah Benis. She is working under a charity Libra Foundation for Africa.

White-collar boxing originated in the US. It involves high profile people who have never boxed. They are rigorously trained for competitions that serve as charity fundraisings.

Asif Arain (Uganda Foundry), Pascal Boagert (ISU teacher), Nigel Sutton (Limelight Advertising), Stephanie Kleschnitzki (UNICEF) and Stuart Campo (Straight Talk) will be the other fighters. They have been training for a month in Kampala.

The charity’s main objective is poverty alleviation and has funded education projects in Mityana and Kyenjojo districts.

Kabira Club, Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort, Media Moguls, House of Eden, Farm Engineering Industries, Silk Events, Crown Beverages and Cineplex are sponsors.
