PARENTS should stop giving teachers alcohol during class hours, the Kitgum district education officer, Amor Okwee Okaka, has warned. Okaka said some teachers sign attendance lists but immediately disappear to drink in the nearby villages.

“Head teachers should ensure that teachers conduct effective teaching daily,” he said. Okaka was speaking at the commissioning of a four-classroom block constructed with funding from the European Union.

The district chairman, John Ogwok, said over 30 schools in the district had no classrooms and operated under trees, but the intervention of the development partners, had reduced the number to nine.

Ogwok called for more support from development partners, saying their services were highly needed for development.
