KCB Uganda has bailed out the Mbarara Golf Open that tees off tomorrow with a timely sh20.5m sponsorship package.

The 18-hole tournament previously sponsored by Barclays Bank, was on the verge of being called off when KCB stepped in.

“KCB’s intervention was crucial. They came in at the last moment but they will make it even bigger next year. We are grateful to KCB for responding to our request when we were in great need,” Edwin Tumusiime, Mbarara club official, said after concluding the deal.

KCB executive director Nok Bwonditi handed over the sponsorship package to organising chairman Nathan Muganga in Kampala yesterday.

Bwonditi said, “We are thrilled to partner with Mbarara sports club to deliver the Mbarara Open to golfers and will be able to build on the excitement, this will generate to help drive the growth of the sport in Uganda.”

The one-day event has attracted 70 golfers from clubs across the country and Kigali in Rwanda.

KCB Rwanda is also sponsoring a corporate day in Kigali on the same day of the Mbarara Open.

“We intend to integrate the East African region to create customer loyalty and goodwill and sponsorship of the Mbarara Open and the Kigali corporate meet is one of the platforms.” Bwonditi said.
