UGANDA Golf Union (UGU) has quickly pieced up sponsorship from multiple sources to send a three-man team to the All Africa Amateur Championship that tees off in Egypt on Monday.

With its budget exhausted by the East African Challenge held in Entebbe early this month, UGU had given up on entering a team in the Cairo competition.

Uganda got back into the continental tournament after individuals and companies offered financial assistance.

“People came to assist and a fundraising drive kicked off in earnest. It’s good to finally have our boys compete in such a big tournament,” UGU official Gad Musasizi stated.

Multiple Industries that partly sponsored the East African Challenge has contributed to the trip as well.

National Council of Sports (NCS) general secretary Jasper Aligaweesa yesterday handed over their contribution of $1500 (sh3m) to UGU vice president John Kisembo.

The team comprising Ian Odokonyero, Vincent Byamukama, captain Emma Opio and led by George Bagambisa who is also the manager is scheduled to leave for Cairo today.
