UGANDA Rugby Union (URU) has formed the patrons’ society that comprises former Union chairpersons. The group will assist the union in development of the sport.

The patrons’ society is chaired by Paul Sigombe who is also the Confederation of Africa Rugby (CAR) vice chairman.

Ian Walker, Andrew Owiny Sanjiv Patel and Phillip Karugaba are also in the new group.

The group members said that one of their first tasks will be to negotiate with local government officials to have Mbale and Masindi rugby grounds handed back back to URU.

At the same time, URU headed by William Blick has introduced the chairmen’s roundtable comprising club chairmen.

The body will handle issues as they happen in the sport and propose the way forward.

They will be doing so in a bid to improve the standard of the sport.

Members of the two bodies are expected to begin work soon.
