CAIRO - Up to 15,000 football fans in Egypt and Tunisia turned up to witness the FIFA World Cup trophy, as it started making its journey towards South Africa.

The trophy, which begun its journey of Africa on September 21, has also been to Algeria, Morocco and Mauritania.

The tour, organised and sponsored by Coca-Cola and FIFA, has given thousands of fans an opportunity to have a souvenir photo taken of them with the trophy and to view a special 3-D movie showcasing memorable moments of the FIFA World Cup.

They also participate in interactive displays and entertainment.
From North Africa, the Trophy will this week be making its way through West Africa.

On October 31, the trophy will make its way to the Democratic Republic of Congo for the East and Central Africa leg of the tour, including Uganda next month.

The Trophy Tour follows major sporting activities that Coca-Cola has organised in Uganda as a build up to the 2010 FIFA World Cup, including the schools Copa Coca-Cola.

On December 3, 2009, the first leg of the tour draws to a close in Cape Town, South Africa, near the time of the 2010 FIFA World Cup Finals draw.

The second part of Trophy Tour by Coca-Cola will see the trophy visit additional countries across the globe. This year’s Trophy Tour is the longest ever global tour.
